What can I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit begins with a detailed assessment to determine the root cause of your condition. Based on this, Dr. Barnett will carefully select and explain the best therapies for you. While there are acupuncture points all over the body, we most commonly use points on the arms and legs below the elbows and knees. Most treatments are done while you are comfortably seated or lying face up on one of our memory foam beds. In fact, most of our patients find their acupuncture session to be the most relaxing part of their day!

What does Acupuncture Feel like?

The sensations from acupuncture vary widely from patient to patient and treatment to treatment. Some patients feel absolutely nothing, or a very light pressure. Other patients experience sensations that can range from a dull, achy sensation to tingling or throbbing. These sensations, known as “Da Qi” in Chinese, can be easily adjusted for each patient.

Can acupuncture help with both natural conception and IVF?

Absolutely. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy have been supporting fertility for over 2,000 years. Modern research shows that acupuncture approximately doubles the success rate for IVF, and has even stronger benefits for additional rounds of IVF.

Is acupuncture safe during IVF or pregnancy?

Yes, absolutely. When performed by an experienced and licensed provider, acupuncture is widely recognized as a safe therapy during both IVF treatment and pregnancy. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

While the number of sessions needed varies for every patient, Dr. Barnett uses his extensive experience to provide you with a detailed prognosis and treatment plan. This plan will outline what results to expect and when. Some patients feel improvement after just one visit, and most people see significant results within 4 weeks of consistent treatment.

Can acupuncture help improve sperm quality?

Yes, it can. Research shows that acupuncture can be beneficial in improving sperm health, particularly in the areas of sperm concentration and motility. We offer treatments focused on supporting male fertility as well.

Can acupuncture interfere with my fertility medications?

There is no research indicating that acupuncture interferes with fertility medications. However, some Chinese herbs can interact with them. For your safety and peace of mind, we have a strict policy of not prescribing herbal medications to patients who are actively undergoing an IVF cycle.

Should I tell my fertility doctor I'm having acupuncture?

Yes, we definitely encourage open communication with your full healthcare team. We are happy to collaborate with your fertility doctor and work alongside them as part of your support system. Please feel free to let them know that we do not use herbal medicine during active IVF protocols.
